Volunteers will place the wreaths at soldiers' graves.

Keeping in mind Wreaths Across America's saying "A person dies twice: once when they take their final breath and later, the last time their name is spoken" the volunteers thank each veteran for their service and say their name aloud as they hang the wreath.

On Monday a ceremony was held in Dover yesterday as part of the Wreaths Across America.

Volunteers will place holiday wreaths to honor and remember those buried in national cemeteries across the country including Mountain Home National Cemetery and Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. The ceremony was open to the public, and area veterans and their families, as well as the loved ones of those killed or wounded in battle were encouraged to attend.

For the second year, the ceremony at Mandeville Cemetery is being organized by the Robert E. Lee No. 737 Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. "All donations are complete for this year, but will go toward next year's ceremony". "We want these kids to recognize what these people have sacrificed for us", said Justin Frantz, a teacher. 40 drivers will move 18 trucks across America stopping at Fayetteville National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Miramar National Cemetery, Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Joaquin National Cemetery, Riverside National Cemetery, and various other national cemeteries. The community, however, came together and made up the difference, she said, including some individuals and organizations doubling their donations to make sure there was a wreath for every grave this season.

The chance to deliver the wreaths and remember the veterans who lost their lives was a humbling experience to Thorton, and he hopes there will be more people in the future that participate in the annual event.

"This is definitely a family-friendly event", she said.
