Top 3 changes on the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Set to make its official at the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Jeep stated that the updated Cherokee will have an authentic and more premium design, along with a more fuel efficient powertrain.

It's been known for a while that the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is going to get a new, less controversial face. The range is topped by a Trailhawk with a 3.2-litre V6 petrol that outputs 268bhp. The air vents are all roughly the same shape and style, the centre stack is the same but we can expect an update to the infotainment unit. Jeep hasn't said anything about it at all other than releasing a few images. The bumper is also all-new and comes with some muscular lines that add to the SUV's aggressive stance.

Off-road-focused Trailhawk variants are expected to retain more muscular styling, with the inclusion of tow hooks, black cladding on the bumpers and wheelarches, all-terrain tyres and an increased ride height.

Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio launches with Tesla in its sights
Nio plans to build over 1,100 "Power Swap" charging stations and deploy over 1,200 "Power Mobile" vehicles by 2020, it added. It has an all-electric range of 311 miles on a single charge and can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour (mph) in 4.4 seconds.

Jeep revived the Cherokee nameplate back in 2014 with an SUV entry that didn't look very Jeep-like. The rear comes with a new tailgate and a roof-mounted spoiler with integrated brake lights. Completing it all are what appear to be new alloy wheels although the ones seen here appear to be for the Limited trim.

Jeep is tight lipped about more details until the Detroit show, but we bet it will still offer a standard 2.4-liter inline-four-cylinder that delivers 184 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque.

The Auburn Hills, Michigan-based automaker released four photos of the SUV that showed its new design, wider headlights and some other changes.
