Woman and 6yo boy killed by deputies during Texas manhunt

At least one round penetrated the wall of the mobile home and struck the boy in the torso, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told the San Antonio Express.

The boy, who has not been officially identified, was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead.

The woman was attempting to break in to the trailer Thursday afternoon in Schertz when the shooting took place.

Salazar said no gun was found on the suspect but investigators are looking for one.

Two other family members were reportedly in the home at the time of the shooting and were not injured. Four deputies began firing their weapons and the suspect was shot and killed at the scene.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the deputies to fire at the woman.

Authorities said the incident began around 10:45 a.m. when a man reported that a woman he knew had stolen his vehicle. Deputies eventually found her trying to break into a mobile home in the 100 block of Nu Pecan Grove.

A deputy had confronted her earlier in the day over reports of a stolen vehicle received at 10.48am.

When deputies caught up with the woman about an hour and a half later near FM 1518, she told deputies she was armed and pointed her gun toward them, according to KENS.

The Sheriff's Office said the woman brandished a firearm several times during a foot chase with deputies.

The suspect made her way into a second trailer park, and was seen by a dozen witnesses trying to enter trailers, physically threatening witnesses and causing them to believe she was armed.

The officers had been tracking the woman for almost two hours when they finally cornered her on the porch of the boy's home.

A helicopter and tracking dogs joined the search, which led deputies down a ravine, across a creek, and into a wooded area, it is reported.
