BCCI picks squad for South Africa ODIs, Ashwin, Jadeja ignored again

Kedar Jadhav makes a return from injury along with Shardul Thakur. Normally Shami is kept in reserve for the Test squad but it seems like the Men in Blue want to go with all guns blazing in the six-match ODI series.

Shreyas Iyer has been rewarded for his good show against Sri Lanka in the ODIs with his maiden overseas tour with the senior team. His 88 runs against the neighbours in the 2nd ODI was highly impressive as he and Rohit Sharma thrashed the Lankans in Mohali where the in-stand skipper made his third double-hundred.

Also still missing from India's ODI squad is spin twins Ravi Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja - the first-choice pair in the Test team. Suresh Raina, who had announced, on Twitter, that he had finally passed the Yo-Yo test has also not found a place in the side. Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad made it clear that they are looking to give Yadav and Chahal a longer rope since they had chose to look at wrist spinners after the Champions Trophy.

The board's senior selection committee, which met here earlier in the day under chairman M.S.K. Prasad left paceman Umesh Yadav out while recalling Mohammed Shami in the squad.
