Twenty feared dead as bus plunges into river in Rajasthan

At least 33 people, including four children, were killed and seven others were injured on Saturday when a 40-seater passenger bus fell into the Banas river in Sawai Madhopur district, 135 kms from Jaipur on Saturday.

Going into the news, incident took place around 6:30 AM in the morning while the bus was traveling from Madya Pradesh to Uttar Pradesh.

The speeding bus was trying to overtake another vehicle when it rammed through the bridge railing at around 7am, according to the police.

The officers had been tracking the woman for almost two hours when they finally cornered her on the porch of the boy's home. Authorities said the incident began around 10:45 a.m. when a man reported that a woman he knew had stolen his vehicle .

Maman Singh, superintendent of Rajasthan Police, said the cause of crash would be subject to an inquiry.

More than 111,000 thousand people die in road accidents each year in India, the highest toll in the world. "State Government is closely monitoring the situation, including rescue operations and providing all possible assistance to those affected", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet.

The accident happened at Dubi in Sawai Madhopur district. Police have reached the spot to carry out rescue operations. My condolences are with the families of the deceased. "The wreckage of the bus has, however, been pulled out of the river using a crane", the official said.
