Doctors warn flu season could peak due to travel, parties

State health officials recommend Delawareans to get a flu shot as soon as possible.

Some say this years vaccine may be to blame for because of its ten percent effective rate. But the egg-grown, the version of the vaccine that most people get, isn't quite as effective. Members of the hospital's staff who have not yet received the flu vaccine and visitors with respiratory symptoms are asked to wear a surgical mask while on the premises of the hospital and other related entities.

While the final decision to get the annual flu shot is a personal one, which usually takes into account a person's exposure to the viruses, their personal history with flus, among other factors, Newsday has compiled a list of flu vaccination pros and cons to help you make a more informed decision this flu season.

Fact: Getting the flu shot, even later in the season, can still be beneficial. Individuals with weak immune systems and healthy individuals are equally likely to catch the flu virus. However, those in high-risk groups like the elderly or the very very young might need to see the doctor and a prescription.
