Two men arraigned in Troy quadruple homicide

Police say two people have been arrested in the quadruple homicide that took the lives of two women and two children in their upstate NY apartment.

A property manager found 36-year-old Shanta Myers; her children, 11-year-old Jeremiah Myers and 5-year-old Shanise Myers; and 22-year-old Brandi Mells in a basement apartment along the Hudson River, just north of Albany on Tuesday. Both men have criminal records and Mann is on parole. Information given in court said the killings took place at about 9 p.m., December 21.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to set up a scholarship and provide resources for Isaiah Smith, Myers' surviving 16-year-old son. Mann is now on parole.

Jeremiah participated in the Troy Boys & Girls Club, which has partnered with the Troy City School District to offer grief counseling.

Police Chief James Tedesco described the slayings as an act of "savagery" and that further details about the gruesome deaths would be released to the public at this time. Troy Police told Post-Star newspartners NewsChannel 13 that court appearances were scheduled for the suspects early Saturday.

Police did not say how they caught the suspects but said they both were arrested without incident.

"I'm scared to go to the corner store", he told the Albany Times-Union.

Tedesco said it was a great relief to have the two men in custody. Both entered a not guilty plea during their arraignment Saturday morning in Troy City Court. "Something that they are trying to get their heads around.I can't say enough about the level of commitment and effort that law enforcement, some of who are here today have put into this case to get us where we are today".

The suspects are slated to appear in court January 4, 2018. Mann appeared to break down as he was led out of court.
