Jon Gruden Expected To Become Head Coach Of Raiders

When asked specifically if he was a candidate, Gruden replied: "Well, I think I am being considered, yes".

"My understanding is they're interviewing candidates this week", Gruden told the Bay Area News Group, "and they're going to let everybody know sometime early next week or whenever they make their decision".

The Oakland Raiders fired head coach Jack Del Rio shortly after their regular season finale to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, leading to increased speculation that Jon Gruden will be returning to lead this franchise.

Everyone wants to focus on the Penn State backfield of Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley but Washington's duo is just as good. Myles Gaskin is an absolute stud and Jake Browning has loads of experience after starting as a freshman two years ago.

Mark Davis was prepared to pursue Gruden with a strong offer that could include an ownership stake in the team. The Raiders seem more likely to keep him around for one more year, not only because they gave him a four-year extension but also to try and prove that this year's disappointment wasn't the norm. However, Gruden holds a career coaching record of 95-81.

Gruden is calling his final game of the season on Saturday, when the Titans and Chiefs meet in the wild-card round.

However, now that the Raiders have suffered another ugly loss on Christmas night to the Philadelphia Eagles, it looks as though Del Rio's complete resurgence of the Raiders isn't going quite as well as people thought. The Raiders must comply with the "Rooney Rule" and interview at least one minority candidate during the hiring process.

The Raiders are interested in bringing back Jon Gruden, who they traded to the Bucs after 2001 season.
