Jeopardy! on Hold After Trebek Has Brain Surgery

The show's producer, Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in a statement that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on December 15 and underwent surgery the following day. He shared the news in a video message on Thursday, January 4. But he assured fans he is coming back to the show soon. It turns out that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on December 15 after experiencing some complications that reportedly stemmed from a bump on the head he took during a fall in October. The surgery was successful, and he was released from the hospital two days later.

"The prognosis is excellent, and I expect to be back in the studio taping more Jeopardy! programs very, very soon!"

Trebek has hosted the syndicated quiz show since 1984, when it was revived by creator Merv Griffin and King World Productions.

Be sure to take extra precaution by covering exposed skin, wearing extra layers, a coat, and gloves. Phillips, Sedgwick and Logan counties in Colorado will be under a wind chill watch.

According to Deadline, Trebek is expected to resume taping later this month and the show's broadcast schedule is not expected to be affected as episodes are taped months in advance.

The following year, he suffered a mild heart attack.
