H&M Issues Apology After Running Ad Showing Black Model With 'Monkey' Hoodie

The Grammy victor tweeted about his disappointment in the popular clothing company's latest marketing attempt, which showed a young black boy wearing a hoodie that read "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle".

CNN quotes a company spokesperson as saying H&M was sorry if the ad offended people: "This image has now been removed from all H&M channels and we apologize to anyone this may have offended".

The Weeknd first partnered with H&M a year ago for multiple collections of custom clothing items, including jackets, parkas and sweatshirts.

The apology came after several shoppers and commentators had slammed the company over the slogan. "We believe in diversity and inclusion in all that we do, and will be reviewing our internal routines". "And the ads will be pulled", he posted on Instagram early Monday. "I'm certain there will Be media fixers and whatnot and maybe a grand gesture like a donation to some charity".

The pair got married on 11 December 2017 in Italy and their lavish wedding reception took place on 26 December, 2017 in Mumbai . Like a dutiful wife, Anushka cheered her hubby on as he went all padded up into the field on the first day of the Test match.

Originally from H&M's United Kingdom website, the image earned social media condemnation late Sunday and on Monday; criticized as being everything from tone-deaf to shockingly ignorant to racist.

Fashion designer Alex Medina, actress Niecy Nash and Karamo Brown of "Queer Eye for Straight Guy" cast were also critical of H&M.

Over the weekend, social media users claimed that this was racist because monkey is a known racial slur.
