HTC Unveils Sharper Vive Pro VR Headset, Wireless Adaptor

This will increase to 2880 x 1600 which HTC says is a 76% increase over the original Vive. This should help with crisper text and graphics within VR experiences. The Vive Pro brings built-in audio and wireless options, and, most importantly, an nearly 80 percent boost in screen resolution.

"Wireless VR has been on almost every VR user's wishlist since the technology was unveiled", said Intel GM Frank Soqui. Other improvements are "integrated, high-performance headphones with a built-in amplifier", dual microphones, and dual front facing cameras "designed to empower developer creativity", presumably with augmented reality applications.

First published January 8 at 1:06 p.m. PT. Update, 1:58 p.m. PT: Adds that existing consumers will also be able to buy the Vive Pro later this quarter.

"By collaborating with HTC to commercialize Intel's WiGig technology, we will guarantee that wireless VR meets the most discerning quality bar for home users and business VR customers". We'll see soon how this makes the experience all the more enhanced.

The new adapter will be shipping in Q3, with no price announced.

Considered the largest upgrade to the Viveport platform since launch, Viveport VR will take the traditional 2D catalog and show it off will immersive and interactive previews.

It's CES 2018, the largest consumer electronic convention in the world, and naturally virtual reality (VR) has an ever growing part to play.

Viveport VR is available in Early Access for you to try out. With more than 1,000 titles available on Viveport today, and more than 325 available for subscription, Vive is changing the way users browse and discover content through Viveport VR.

That's particularly the case for high-end VR systems like the Vive or rival Oculus Rift, a headset from Facebook's Oculus unit.

The new model, which sits above the current Vive already available on the market, will feature a greatly improved resolution and high-res audio support.

The company also partnered with Vimeo to integrate more video content into a revamped version of its Vive Video app, and now lets users choose the next video while they still watch the current clip - perhaps laying the foundation for binge-watching in VR.
