Ridley Scott 'betrayed and angry' by pay gap

Ridley Scott 'betrayed and angry' by pay gap

She ultimately worked over Thanksgiving, racing to London on an overnight flight after arranging for her 12-year-old daughter to spend the holiday without her.

Whether Williams could have gotten the exact same paycheck as Wahlberg for the reshoots probably depends on how much additional work each of them had to do.

Those arguing Wahlberg's case contend that not only did he take a larger pay cut to do the film in the first place, but when the question of reshoots arose, the actor had more leverage since his name also had been used to secure foreign sales on the film and he also was beginning to shoot a new film, Mile 22. Neither Wahlberg's camp nor his agency, William Morris Endeavor - which also represents Williams - provided comment on the new reporting.

Now, however, sources tells USA Today that both actors had preexisting language in their contracts concerning reshoots, with one person explaining to the paper, "What he said was, 'I will not approve Christopher Plummer unless you pay me.' And that's how he (expletive) them".

Now celebs are speaking out with outrage after its been revealed that Williams was possibly paid less than one percent of her male co-star's salary for the reshoot.

Mark Wahlberg earns 1500 times more than Michelle Williams for All The Money In The World reshoot
Mark Wahlberg made $1.5 million off the Kevin Spacey scandal

"She has been in the industry for 20 yrs", actress Jessica Chastain wrote on Twitter of Williams, a four-time Oscar nominee.

Director Ridley Scott chose to cut Spacey from the completed Getty family kidnapping drama after he was accused of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behaviour, and he called on Christopher Plummer to step in and play billionaire J. Paul Getty. The Post, citing sources close to the negotiations, reported then that Wahlberg was paid at least $2 million for approximately 10 days of work. "She deserves more than 1 per cent of her male co-star's salary".

Williams and Wahlberg re-shot scenes for "All the Money in the World" after Kevin Spacey was axed from the movie following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Ridley Scott, who directed the movie, and Imperative Entertainment, the company that produced and financed it, were lauded in December for purging the disgraced actor Kevin Spacey from the film.

What's alarming and preposterous about this revelation is that Williams is a markedly more gifted and critically recognized film presence than Wahlberg, who hasn't even given a noteworthy acting performance in his career. He asked his primary agent, Doug Lucterhand, to push for more money. She did everything she thought she had to do, including giving up Thanksgiving with her family, to make sure that "All The Money In The World" would get into theaters. So it's easy to see how those involved in "All The Money In The World" seemed caught between two competing imperatives.
