Facebook steps up privacy education, shares 'privacy principles' for first time

"As technology becomes more sophisticated, and as people's thinking about privacy becomes more sophisticated, they want to understand how their information is going to be used and they want to have control over it", said Rob Sherman, the company's deputy chief privacy officer. It as well invites the users to go through its Privacy Checkup as an extension of the campaign, for the better experience in managing data.

We help people understand how their data is used.

"We hosted our first workshop in Brussels last week and published a guide for frequently asked questions", Facebook's Chief Privacy Officer Erin Egan wrote in the blog post.

No longer tucked away in a discreet corner of the app, Facebook has launched an all-new set of privacy tools to help you control what people can and can't see on the site.

On Monday, Facebook released its privacy principles - seven sentences that the company says it should be held accountable to - as well as a series of educational videos about how to control the information Facebook collects and uses to show you ads, and how to delete your account.

Tottenham close in on £25m Lucas Moura
Moura has made just six appearances for the Ligue 1 giants this season, scoring one goal and assisting one further strike. L'Equipe suggested Moura, who earns around £75,000-a-week at the Parc des Princes, is valued at €30 million by PSG.

For Facebook and other Silicon Valley giants, complying with the GDPR may pose greater costs and require additional resources as their business models rely on the collection and sale of consumer habits online. The new videos will appear in the News Feed in the near future. The company is creating a "privacy center" where all related settings can be found in one place on the website.

GDPR is already shaking up the internet, and having major consequences for the whole world - not just countries in the EU.

We know how important it is for you to have clear, simple tools for managing your privacy. The company's announcement was done ahead of the General Data Protection Guidelines (GDPR) implementation in Europe.

What are the privacy principles?

Closer to home, the company has come under heightened scrutiny over its handling of Russian disinformation campaigns that ran on the social media platform before and after the 2016 presidential election.

In Europe, Facebook has been the focus of several privacy investigations by government watchdogs in recent years. He urged stricter regulations on dominant technology companies and pointed to the enforcement actions of the European Union as a model that US regulators should emulate.
