Flawless storm brewing for Kirk Cousins

Flawless storm brewing for Kirk Cousins

With the extension, Smith is tied to the Redskins for five years.

Those failures were in large part why the Chiefs traded up previous year in the first round to draft quarterback, and why the Chiefs on Tuesday sent Smith to Washington in return for a third-round pick plus Redskins cornerback as compensation, .

With Smith in the fold, after the deal becomes official Wednesday, the Redskins are expected to let Kirk Cousins walk, making him the most intriguing free-agent quarterback on the market.

Because of that and because of the player himself, the Mahomes-era Chiefs are now must-watch viewing.

Prosecutors said the apartment and its refurbishing was a bribe worth 3.7 million reais ($1.1 million). Lula also faces six other indictments, a lot of them for alleged corruption .

The deal can not become official until the new league year starts at 3 p.m. ET on March 14, but Paylor reported the deal is in place and is expected to go forward. The Chiefs agreed to trade Smith to the Washington Redskins for at least one draft pick, probably a 3rd Round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Smith had one year remaining on a four-year, $68m extension he signed in September 2014. Smith has gone 1-4 in the playoffs with Kansas City, and the Chiefs traded up to draft QB in the first round last April. They are handing the offense over to the Texas Tech alum after the Chiefs were upset in the Wild Card round of the playoffs at home by the Tennessee Titans earlier this month. In fact, Smith has thrown for 17,608 yards, 102 TDs, and 33 INTs.

Specifically, it ramps up the stakes for Kirk Cousins in free agency. Washington applied the franchise tag to Cousins in 2016 and '17, and commenced lengthy negotiating processes, and was reportedly considering using it a third time, but that would have resulted in an untenable $34.5 million salary.

Washington limped to a 7-9 finish in 2017 amid a rash of injuries. While on The Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday, Patrick asked Smith about where he is playing this fall and specifically about the Browns. "I feel like we underachieved". I feel like we, offensively previous year, did some awesome things. I've been through this before, the trade deal, so I'm not naive to it. "That's something that we have to do as an organization and be diligent and study it and make sure we're ready to go no matter what happens". He completed 67.5 percent of his passes - the most of his career in a full season - and threw for 4,042 yards and 26 touchdowns (both career highs) to only five interceptions.

Smith played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2005-2012, and led the team to the NFC Championship Game in 2011.
