SpaceX Launches Orbital ATK-Built GovSat Satellite Aboard Pre-Flown Rocket

The launch of GovSat-1 is the beginning of a new space experience for Luxembourg, after the foundation of SES in 1985 and the launch of the first SES satellite almost 30 years ago. It will support communications within Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and enable operations over the Atlantic and Indian oceans, as well as over the Mediterranean and Baltic seas.

From an orbit high over the equator, the satellite built by Orbital ATK is created to provide communications services for military and government users from European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member states. Only the Saturn V moon rocket, last flown in 1973, delivered more payload to orbit.

Elon Musk, Founder, and CEO of Space X said that the news Falcon 9 first stage rocket could be reused for 10 or more times.

The launcher which carried the satellite had previously been used to launch and land the NROL-76 spy satellite in May 2017.

SpaceX did fire the rocket's retro thrusters, as it does during a controlled landing when it tries to sit the booster upright either on land or on one of its ocean-borne ships, but it did so very high in the air, with the sole intent of making sure the rocket would avoid colliding at high impact with its mobile landing pads.

Spotify is testing a new app that's just for listening to playlists
Coincidentally, Pandora's latest apps also instantly begin music playback upon launch them, much like Stations promises to do. Users log in with a Spotify account and the app automatically plays genre-based radio stations like "jazz" or "indie".

The successful GovSat-1 mission comes as SpaceX preps for the much-anticipated launch of its massive three-booster Falcon Heavy on 6 February.

The satellite is the first developed through a public-private partnership between the Government of Luxembourg and the satellite company SES, said a SpaceX release.

The liftoff at 4:25 p.m. (ET) from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station followed a technical glitch that prompted a 24-hour flight delay. "GovSat and the launch of GovSat-1 is another step towards strengthening the position of Luxembourg as a key player in the aerospace sector, and contributes to a diversification of our economy".

Reusable rockets would cut costs and waste in the space industry, which now loses millions of dollars in jettisoned machinery after each launch.

Producing more than 5 million pounds of thrust, the rocket would become the most powerful rocket available today. "We will try to tow it back to shore". Yesterday, the reusable SpaceX rocket successfully launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The booster on Wednesday's mission first flew May 1, 2017, to propel a classified National Reconnaissance Office payload toward orbit.
