It's very possible he could get a deal larger than Garoppolo's on the free agent market, which opens in March.

Raj Mathai of NBC Bay Area was first to announce the agreement; Garafolo was first with the financial details.

For his part, Garoppolo mostly played coy when asked about contract negotiations, but he also repeatedly referred to the Niners in an inclusive way on multiple occasions. In both total and average annual value, it is the largest pact in National Football League history.

In any event, the 49ers have now officially locked up their franchise quarterback for the next five years.

But none created the early buzz Garoppolo generated.

Garoppolo was acquired by the 49ers in October from the New England Patriots.

Garoppolo should not have been traded for just a second round pick, but I digress...

His next four starts also ended in victories with Garoppolo receiving stellar marks in accuracy, improvisational skills and leadership. We'll see. I think he wants to be with us and we want him there, so I think it makes too much sense not to happen.

Now, with a fresh software update that'll begin rolling out tomorrow, you won't see any ads on the lock screen at all. Now, the biggest advertising surface on the phones, the lock screen, is being scrubbed of advertising.

In his five starts, Garoppolo completed 118 of 176 passes for 1,542 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

"The way he came into the huddle and practice when he was there for two days and really just kind of took over", 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley said on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday. "But we're not fooling anybody - it's a quarterback-driven (league)". You heard that question a lot.

The million-dollar looks were the cherry on top of a franchise-altering trade that gave the 49ers the most important piece to turn around their organization.

"To make way for Tom Brady's" ego, Alexa deadpans in response in what is surely the sickest burn of Super Bowl week so far.

Jimmy Garoppolo has signed a five-year $190 million contract with the 49ers. That deal can not become official until March 14, the first day of the new league year.

It remains very good news for those who are next in line, a group that includes Kirk Cousins, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan and, especially, Aaron Rodgers.

The 49ers have embraced the idea of building their franchise around the 26-year-old quarterback, and it will likely pay off in the long run. The record-shattering salary means he'll earn $27.5 million per year.
