Donald Trump: 'Disgraceful' that illegal immigrant killed Colts' Edwin Jackson

Tragedy struck the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday when one of their players were killed in a road accident. Prosecutors said they were working with police on the investigation.

The deaths of Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and his Uber driver in IN were "completely preventable" had more stringent immigration laws and a wall for enforcing them had been in place, Rep. Todd Rokita said Wednesday.

The man who allegedly hit Jackson, Manuel Orrego-Savala, was charged in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of in with illegally re-entering the U.S. after he was deported at an earlier date.

The illegal immigrant suspected of killing an Indianapolis Colts player and another man in a drunken roadside crash over the weekend has been charged with a felony immigration violation, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay will pay for the funerals of Jackson and Monroe, a team spokesperson confirmed to CNN.

Police said after the truck hit them, Orrego-Zavala then tried to flee the scene on foot before being arrested.

As was previously reported, Orrego-Savala had been previously deported out of the US on two separate occasions.

Orrego-Savala's only responses in court were answering through an interpreter as the judge explained the proceedings and charges. The 37-year-old Orrego-Savala, who is from Guatemala and has twice been deported from the USA, is charged with causing death while driving intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police also said that Orrego-Savala was at almost three times the legal blood-alcohol content limit, which is 0.08 percent in Indiana. He was deported in 2007 and 2009.

LeBron James reportedly at odds with Cavaliers front office
Judging from how the Cavs handled the Irving situation, their front office might not have such a persuasive communicator. They're going to have to get worse to get better, and Walker is the best asset to acquire something for the future.

President Donald Trump drew added attention to the case on Twitter, calling the highway collision that killed Jackson and Monroe "disgraceful". "We must get the [Democrats] to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!"

Trump tweeted about the case Tuesday, saying it's "so disgraceful" that Jackson was killed by a person who was in the USA illegally.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said in a statement that comments politicizing the fatal crash were "ghoulish and inappropriate, "The Associated Press reported on Wednesday".

Jeffrey Monroe, 54, had been an Uber driver for more than two years. Trump made no aggressive claims to improve domestic gun control laws and simply said, "My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the bad Las Vegas shooting".

Torres also said that Orrego-Savala's immigration status has no bearing on the crash case. He notes that Orrego-Savala has been living in IN for several years and doing construction work in the Indianapolis area. Mr. Trump tweeted Tuesday morning. "We are shocked and saddened by this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of both men during this hard time". "This obviously happened so unexpectedly", Atlanta attorney Daniel Meachum said.

Collectively, Orrego-Savala is facing well-over a decade in prison if he is convicted. Additionally, he has many other misdemeanor criminal convictions and arrests in California and Indiana.

The immigration charges will remain pending until the state case is concluded, federal prosecutors say.

He appeared Tuesday before a judge who advised him of his rights.

"He did everything for me", said Deborah.
