Boston Bruins Make A Flurry of Moves In Effort To Win Now

I'm not sure if he will get 2nd line power play unit time yet, but he could find his way onto the power play sometime.

Yes, I know this isn't 2008 Rick Nash, and he's not the player he once was, but he's still a viable second line forward who can really help on a team that needs sniping forwards for a deep push. The 29-year-old left-winger has disappointed with the Bruins after signing a five-year, $3.8 million contract with the team in 2015.

Spooner is expected to make his Rangers debut against Detroit.

The game was Nash's first in almost a week after the Rangers had him sit out their previous two games to avoid the possibility of him getting injured. Although Nash had the benefit of those with NY, he hasn't played with a center the caliber of Krejci (sorry Mike Zibanejad) with the Rangers for a while. Nash will be an unrestricted free agent after the season ends.

Rick Nash wasted no time and dove right into his new venture, resetting his sights back on winning the Stanley Cup - but this time as a member of the Bruins.

"We want to go for it", Leafs centre Nazem Kadri said when I asked him after Saturday night's win what message the team had sent to GM Lou Lamoriello with its recent play.

Boston was able to carry out both before Monday.

Boston wasn't done adding to its roster by signing Brian Gionta to a one-year $700,000 contract. Gionta, who just returned from the Olympics, will give the Bruins depth.

Ryan Spooner, 26, has played center and wing for the Boston Bruins, putting up 9 goals and 16 assists in 39 games. NY is slipping out of playoff contention, with a 5-16 record in the past 21 games since January 7 and a six-game losing streak ahead of a matchup with Detroit on Sunday.

In return for Nash, the Blueshirts have acquired defenseman Ryan Lindgren, forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey. He said that the B's were at the top of his list of desired teams to which he could be traded.

Buffalo also beat Boston on October 21 (5-4 in overtime) and February 10 (4-2) and lost to the Bruins on December 19 (3-0).

NY might not be done dealing with captain Ryan McDonagh also considered to be on the trading block. Ratelle amassed 491 goals, 776 assists and 1,267 points in 1,281 career games, each top-10 when he retired following the 1980-81 season.

The Rangers saluted Nash following the trade by posting a note on their Twitter account by thanking him for "6 memorable years as part of the New York Rangers family".

The trade: The Toronto Maple Leafs acquire Tomas Plekanec and Kyle Baun from the Montreal Canadiens for Rinat Valiev, Kerby Rychel and Toronto's second-round draft pick in 2018.

Lindgren is a 20-year-old defenseman drafted in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
