Tripura poll results will have no impact in Karnataka, says Siddaramaiah

Tripura poll results will have no impact in Karnataka, says Siddaramaiah

The Chief Minister said when it comes to Northeast, the Prime Minister has always accorded great importance to its development. The BJP on its own won 35 seats, four more than the half-way mark, while its ally IPFT won eight seats. While the electoral significance of Karnataka can not be understated, this strategy is not likely to work against the marauding BJP if Congress wishes to retain its position as the national alternative.

The BJP's stated aim of a "Congress-mukt Bharat" is becoming a reality at a faster pace than anybody would have imagined with the grand old party now relegated to merely three full-fledged states - Punjab, Karnataka and Mizoram. It has also failed to form a government in Meghalaya despite emerging as the single-largest party in the state.

The BJP and the NDPP together bagged 29 seats in Nagaland, as did outgoing chief minister TR Zeliang's Naga People's Front (NPF), just two seats short of getting a majority.

The Party has obtained 42.7% of the votes cast in Tripura, down only by about 4% from 48.11% in the 2013 assembly elections. The Chief Minister claimed that he enjoys the support of other elected members.

The NDPP got 17 seats while the BJP got 12. It also subsumes the bourgeois comprador class - the real class enemy of the Congress - within the more visible, and thereby more targetable fascistic forces of the BJP. Tripura victory will prompt BJP to go ballistic in the remaining Left pitch - Kerala - besides positioning itself as the real challenger to Trinamool in Bengal. That is a different debate, but it had its bearing on the Nagaland polls, with some churches issuing appeals to voters not to elect people who could become an affront to Christianity. With both NPF and NDPP staking claim to forming the government, is Nagaland headed for another round of instability like in last 5 years?

S/African lawmakers pass law outlawing compensation for reclaimed land
Coloureds owned 15 percent of the land, Indians five percent and black Africans, by far the majority, only four percent. The party has emphasised that while it works towards accelerating land reform, it will do so in an orderly manner.

A day after the Meghalaya and Nagaland assembly election results were out, throwing up hung assemblies, the states are moving towards new coalition governments with the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) as part of both.

Comrades, if some sources state that what has happened in Tripura is a loss for the Communist Party of India (Marxist), do not believe them.

Gowda said the country was seeing a "revival and resurgence" of the Congress starting with Gujarat and the by-polls in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and "the cutting to size of the BJP due to its corruption and non-performance".

To what extent is the Congress responsible for the BJP's rise in the Northeast?

Acharya also informed that NPF president Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu has written to BJP president Amit Shah reminding him about NPF's long period of partnership with the BJP and that they are still allies.
