Seahawks' decision to release Richard Sherman didn't come overnight

Seahawks' decision to release Richard Sherman didn't come overnight

Coach Pete Carroll talked throughout those years about how much he appreciated Shead coming up in his program, never complaining, doing all that was asked of him and earning more roles each month of each season. He already has a visit lined up with the Detroit Lions, according to Foster. They refused and will now have to look at Sherman on the opposite sideline at least twice in 2018.

Sherman acted as his own agent, as he's done throughout his career. Paraag Marathe, San Francisco's executive vice president of football operations, said Sherman also studied 49ers contracts "and knew who we'd given real guaranteed money to". "It's 75 degrees and sunny outside, we've got [Garoppolo] - who wouldn't want to be here?"

Thomas' tweet was not out there long before Sherman was out there setting things straight. Talib, who ranks second with 34 interceptions since 2008, is 32, but he's also healthier, with Sherman still recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon - the same injury that plagued cornerback Kayvon Webster and prompted the Rams to get so aggressive at this position in the first place. Both Sherman and his new team expect that he will be able to join the training camp. Unheard of. And he did so with one of the top negotiators in the entire league.

During an interview with KIRO-AM, Sherman stated that the Seahawks were set to release him and thus, break apart what has been a vaunted defense for the Seahawks since 2012.

One of the draws to the San Francisco 49ers for first-time free agent Richard Sherman was the revenge factor. Adding a player like Sherman only adds to that excitement.

Sherman then celebrated a Thanksgiving night win in a road game against the 49ers the following season by eating a turkey leg on the 50-yard line.

Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara alluded to the island's history of ethnic violence in urging his countrymen "to say no to racism".

For the 49ers, the reasoning seems to be, "If you can't beat 'em, sign 'em". You're saying this is a very unique deal.

While a poor connection with background noise garbled his media conference call, Sherman voiced no frustration. Imagine if Sherman picks of Russell Wilson in Seattle or here in the Bay.

Sherman saw more to the 49ers than Garoppolo.

Sherman's 6-foot-3 frame is the prototype for a scheme the 49ers installed last season under defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, a former Seahawks assistant.

Sherman spent his first seven seasons in Seattle after being drafted out of Stanford in the fifth round of the 2011 draft. Last year, he allowed a 38.5 completion percentage, the league's second-best mark. In 2019 and 2020, Sherman's base salary is either $7 or $8 million with the same incentives package.
