For Lionel Richie, The 'Idol' Excitement Is Genuine

"#American Idol" 2018 debuted March 11 with an exuberant ensemble of hopeful talents from auditions across the country.

The 19-year-old shared a special moment with judge Katy Perry after his confession that he had never been kissed. Seacrest recently faced sexual harassment allegations, and the Idol producers have stood behind him. While the zombie apocalypse drama last week eked out its worst numbers in seven years-you'd have to go all the way back to the fifth episode (Nov. 28, 2010) in order to find an installment of "Walking Dead" that averaged a lower demo delivery than last Sunday's 2.9-AMC's flagship series still beats out everything else on the tube in the target audience.

I left #Venezuela looking for a better future and to help my family nearly 4 years ago.

Misha Gontar, 26, Marengo, IL: Originally from the Ukraine, Misha sang a super-catchy but incredibly weird song that featured an "oo-ee-oh/bow bow bow" chant and speed-rapping in what we assume was Ukranian.

Next up is a man who escaped from the Congo with his family when he was only 10 years old. Perry thought it was a very well written song. But Richie said that Seacrest is still the anchor that holds the show together. He gets a golden ticket.

Ron Bultongez auditioned next. He has an emotional backstory, but fails to immediately wow Katy and Lionel with his rendition of James Bay's "Let It Go". "Everyone was crying. I was crying and then Luke Bryan came out, and he shakes my mom and dad's hand and says, 'You birthed a attractive mind, ' and all of that stuff". He's going to Hollywood after all. Viewers reportedly will see Gabby Barrett, Jurnee Siani, Kay Kay Alexis, and Layla Spring in this group, along with singers Maddie Poppe, Mara Justine, Michelle Sussett, and Shannon O'Hara.

But her second song was the selling point.

Harper Grace, 16, McKinney, Texas. Lionel was excited to watch Alyssa's journey on the show, and she got three enthusiastic yeses.

Turkey will deliver Afrin to its true owners, says Erdoğan
When Ankara reaches it, the troops will be pulled out of the country, he stated. "We are advancing toward Afrin [city center]". AP reported Erdogan accused the alliance of double standards.

As a new age of "American Idol" begins, we look back on some of the best past auditions.

Lane Hardy, 17, Livingston, LA: A true country boy, he sang "Hurricane" by Band of Heathens and won the judges over with his soulful, gritty style. Perry said the chorus was really well written. She's going to Hollywood. "Who's Loving You" by the Jackson 5. The judges believe she has the vocal chops, but want her to prepare herself for the rigors and disappoints of the biz. "We don't have to convince ourselves that this sounds good - it just does", Katy says. Richie was anxious about her not being ready for the competition, but he still voted yes. She's obviously got a nice voice and her hyper personality won't be forgotten anytime soon. All three judges pushed him through to the next round.

The first round of auditions were set in New York City and Los Angeles and we saw a lot of golden tickets be handed out right out of the gate. Rock "n" roll singer Nico Bones sang a children's song about worms while playing electric guitar. Richie and Perry agreed. The network had its best Sunday in nearly six years and towered over the competition by 70 percent.

The heartfelt performance of the iconic tune had an immediate effect on Perry, who had to fight back tears as Francisco sang. He got a golden ticket. She was dead on with her original song, "Yard Sale", which impressed all the panel, particularly Katy, with its distinctive attention to detail. For example, both Marcio and Jurnee are said to have made it to "Hollywood Week" during Season 15, and Adam/Ada was seen getting to the Top 52 during Season 12. I loved him. I give him an A+ for that audition. The judges seem uncertain. He has a bit of a crooner's voice, but it's not good. He gave them a little more, and they were sold.

Dennis Lorenzo, 26, Phiadelphia, PA. His father was murdered when he was five, and he found himself on the wrong side of life until a guitar became his salvation. It started strong, but he really shined when he slipped into his falsetto.

Who do you think had the best audition of the night?
