Trump personal assistant dismissed, joins '20 campaign

The president's long-time personal aide John McEntee has been fired by the White House, according to USA media.

The former personal assistant was removed due to trouble with his security clearance and is now under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes, CNN reported Tuesday.

"We don't comment on security clearances or personnel issues", White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told CNN in a statement.

McEntee declined a CNN request to comment. McEntee was one of Trump's longest serving aides who has been serving with Trump since the early days of the campaign.

While everyone in Washington was talking about Rex Tillerson, a long-time aide to Donald Trump was shown the White House door.

And it highlights the extent to which the re-election campaign has already become a landing pad for former Trump associates who have left the White House but remain loyal to the President. A since-fired State Department employee said this morning that Tillerson found out he was sacked when he saw Trump's tweet.

Trump's personal assistant - also known as a body man - McEntee accompanied the president nearly everywhere and had been an aide for him since early in the campaign. The role meant McEntee was almost constantly at the President's side. The cause of the firing was an unspecified security issue, said a third White House official with knowledge of the situation.

But a senior administration official said numerous President's top aides were shocked by the abrupt departure, which the official described as a sudden decision. White House Communications Director Hope Hicks resigned last month. "John to promote the President's growing portfolio of achievements across the country".
