Trump Fires Tillerson, Picks CIA Chief Pompeo to Succeed Him

With that view, the Trump administration has blurred the terms of the nuclear deal with other complaints against Iran that fall outside the scope of the agreement, including Iran's ballistic missile program.

"We disagreed on things", Trump told reporters at the White House - a diplomatic take on a fractious relationship that included reports that Tillerson had privately called the president a "moron".

Barely 24 hours after his visit to Nigeria, Rex Tillerson was sacked as the 69th United States Secretary of State.Tillerson was in Nigeria and Chad on the last leg of his maiden trip to Africa.

Tillerson said he would now return to private life.

Shortly before the president said he would meet with Kim, Tillerson had stressed that the US was a "long ways from negotiations" with North Korea. He planned to leave Foggy Bottom at the end of the day, even though his commission as the secretary of state expires 31 March midnight. Tillerson had credibility problems because he publicly disagreed with Trump on several major issues.

Politico reported in February that a fuming Tillerson said there can not be "four secretaries of state", referencing what he saw as intrusion by Kushner, UN ambassador Nikki Haley and national security adviser H.R. McMaster. "There's a fear you might be projecting this image of chaos in the White House".

"I'm a big boy", Goldstein told reporters later. As recently as Monday night, while Tillerson was still in the air flying back from his trip to Africa, a top aide said Tillerson was staying put. "However, my understanding is he doesn't want the deal to disappear", said a former senior US official. One official said chief of staff John Kelly had called Tillerson on Friday and again on Saturday to warn him that Trump was about to take imminent action if he did not resign and that a replacement had already been identified.

His meeting with Buhari was the final leg of his five-nation African tour that saw him visit Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Chad and Nigeria.

I don't agree 100 percent with President Trump's approach to foreign policy, and I was concerned about his baiting North Korea.

Haspel's 'black site' past a hurdle to confirmation as CIA director

A combination photo shows U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson (left), and Central Intelligence Agency Director Mike Pompeo. When Trump finally got Tillerson to stop groveling, the situation improved. The president mentioned differences over how to handle the Iran agreement, "so we were not really thinking the same".

His sack was linked to his recent criticism of Russian Federation and a series of public rifts with Trump.

Tillerson's departure adds to a period of intense turnover within Trump's administration that has alarmed those both in and out of the White House. A supporter of phony free trade, Tillerson seemed more like the appeasement-type of secretary of state that we would expect if Hillary Clinton had won the presidential election.

Pompeo, a former Republican congressman from Kansas, has been one of Trump's most loyal Cabinet members and quickly formed a close bond with the president, coming personally to the White House most days to deliver the President's Daily Briefing. He will do a fantastic job!

Pompeo will be grilled on his policy positions when he comes before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for a confirmation hearing.

But Ms Haspel, though well-respected by the intelligence community, is likely to face tough questions about her knowledge of waterboarding techniques used by United States intelligence agencies to interrogate suspects.

Newnham said another possible concern with Pompeo taking over the State Department is his background heading the country's spy organization. He also praised Trump, saying, "His leadership has made America safer".

One political analyst told Cheddar the move was telling. Mr Tillerson had not been informed of Mr Trump's plans to meet Kim Jong-un before the president's surprise announcement last week.

"I believe that this information about her involvement (in the interrogation program) should be declassified, and in effect it's been a cover-up that it hasn't been", Wyden said. After Trump asserted that "many sides" were to blame for the violence, Tillerson was asked whether he was "separating himself" from Trump's remarks.

Kawhi Leonard feeling 'much better,' Spurs optimistic he will play this year
But, it can also be recalled that Popovich and Leonard seem to have different perspective when it comes to the latter's return. The Spurs (37-30) have lost 11 of their past 14 and are now 10th in the Western Conference standings with 15 games remaining.
