Actress and activist Cynthia Nixon launches run against Cuomo

Sex And The City actress Cynthia Nixon has announced that she is running for governor of NY.

Mirandas of the world united to cheer on Nixon and remember her character Miranda Hobbes, the high-powered attorney on HBO's Sex and the City.

In a video announcing her campaign, Nixon says, "I love NY".

She goes on to say that New York's leaders are letting down the city's residents, pointing out problems with healthcare and the NY subway line.

In the video, Nixon decries income inequality in a state that she says has "incredible wealth and extreme poverty" and the depressed upstate economy where she says half of all children are poor.

"Next stop Albany, " a voice says at the end of an online video her campaign released showing her riding aboard a train.

She recalled growing up in New York City with her mom, a single parent, in a one bedroom fifth-floor walk-up, but said she was given opportunities that she doesn't see for New York's kids today.

For those of us who value equal rights for all, or economic and racial justice, or want to combat climate change, we've taken huge steps backwards.
"We want our government to work again on health care, ending mass incarceration, fixing our broken subway".

New European sanctions would affect nuclear deal
The Iran nuclear deal gave the Islamic Republic a break from crippling sanctions if it agreed to stop pursuing nuclear weapons. The commission overseeing the nuclear accord said on Friday in Vienna that Iran was meeting its obligations under the deal.

Nixon is challenging the incumbent, Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who is seeking a third term. Asked by reporters this month why she might run against him, Cuomo joked that she was put up to it by his enemies.

"This is a time to be visible", Nixon said in the YouTube video distributed Monday that confirmed her campaign, the subject of rumors for weeks.

She adds, "I love NY".

Ms Nixon is aligned with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat who is politically to the left of Mr Cuomo.

She announced her candidacy today through a video message.

"I'm Cynthia Nixon, I'm a New Yorker, and together we can win this fight", she concluded.

In response to Nixon's launch, Cuomo's campaign issued a statement saying it is "great that we live in a democracy where anyone can run for office".

"I'm not nervous about whoever runs", Cuomo said last week. I swear on every pair of Carrie's Manolo's this is not fake news. Nixon's wife, Christine Marinoni, recently stepped down from her position in the de Blasio administration.
