Nokia 1 with Android Oreo (Go Edition) arrives in India

The feature budget smartphone is familiar in design to previous Nokia models and has full access to Google Play store and all the core smartphone apps, which are optimised for lower RAM usage and to consume less data. As the value market leader in feature phones, we understand the barriers and challenges people face when it comes to stepping up to a smartphone which is where the Nokia 1 fits in perfectly. Lava was the first to introduce its Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone, dubbed the Z50. This affordable smartphone is available across mobile phone outlets in the country. RedBus is also offering 20% discount to the Nokia 1 users for their first booking.

HMD Global, the Finnish maker of Nokia-branded handsets, said that its latest Android Go-powered smartphone and its upcoming 4G feature phone would be key to increasing market share in India by volume from the current level of around 5%. The company calls it Nokia 1 and it is priced at Rs. 5499. The device has now been launched in India for a price of ₹5499 ($85) and will be available starting tomorrow. The phone itself is available in color options of Dark Blue and Warm Red. Buyers will also be eligible for a 12-month Accidental Damage Insurance by Service on opening the Kotak 811 savings account, the company mentioned in a press release.

Running the latest Android Oreo (Go edition) - a version of Android for devices with 1GB RAM or less - Nokia 1 would deliver all the features expected from a quality smartphone. There is a microSD card slot supporting up to 128GB of expandable storage. For photos, there's a 5-megapixel camera at the back with a fixed focus lens and an LED flash. On the front, the handset has a 2-megapixel fixed focus camera.

Suspicious packages received at military installations
The current scare comes in the wake of the Austin package bombings that left two people dead and several injured. An X-ray of the package indicated a suspected Global Positioning System and a fuse.

The Nokia 1 got announced exactly a month ago at the MWC 2018, and it's now made its way to India.

From the connectivity front, it has 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 and Global Positioning System. The phone comes with the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and a G-sensor. It is also a rather compact device with a 4.5-inch 854x480 pixels LCD display and a rather generous 2,150mAH battery.
