UFC 223-Ferguson Injured

UFC 223-Ferguson Injured

So we're on our way to Brooklyn for UFC 223 Fight Week, and the highly anticipated main event between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov has just been cancelled. Ferguson tripped over a production cable on a FOX set and tore the lateral collateral ligament in his knee.

While facing the featherweight champion in a lightweight title fight in Brooklyn represents a unique challenge, opportunity, and spectacle, Nurmagomedov told WFAN's "Outside the Cage" his fight after Holloway will be even bigger.

In a situation that can be described as dizzying, White confirmed to ESPN's Brett Okamoto that this fight would be for the undisputed lightweight title, meaning that Ferguson would be stripped of his interim lightweight championship and Conor McGregor would be stripped of his lightweight championship.

And Nurmagomedov has revealed that McGregor was given first refusal on the bout, but six days' notice was too short a window to make weight.

Say what you will about the constant flow of main event killing injuries that plagues the UFC, but at least the promotion does a decent job of pulling interesting replacement fights out of their ass.

Cops believe SUV crash that killed family may have been intentional
She was sentenced to 90 days in jail but wasn't required to serve any of the time if she followed the terms of her probation. It remains unclear whether they were in the vehicle during the incident, and police have not yet found any eye witnesses.

"Hell no. I'm never making that fight ever again".

"If I beat Conor or if I beat Georges St-Pierre, which one is better for my legacy?"

Tony Ferguson believes that his injury, which was suffered during a media obligation last week should not be the reason he has his interim UFC lightweight title taken from him. "I get to share the Octagon with the guy April 7th". At least, it was enough time if his tweet about "staying ready" was in reference to the lightweight title fight.

However, it won't happen as Ferguson had to pull out of the fight with an injury. It takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money to properly promote and market a fight of that magnitude. "I think it's going to be a long night for him". He won the title at UFC 216 in October by submitting Kevin Lee.

"About Conor? I don't remember when he fight last time", Nurmagomedov said. But it's fair to wonder whether McGregor will fight the victor of Saturday's showdown. Not only did he miss two full years due to a knee injury between 2014 and 2016, he withdrew from his third attempt at facing Ferguson last March for the interim 155-pound title after being hospitalized for a hard weight cut.
