Trump pardons Scooter Libby, says he was 'treated unfairly'

Libby was chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney and was convicted of perjury during a case involving the leak of a Central Intelligence Agency operative's identity.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told Breitbart News that Cheney phoned the president after the announcement was made.

President Trump pardons former Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff. "Scooter" Lewis Libby, former Chief of Staff to Vice President Richard Cheney, for convictions stemming from a 2007 trial. He was the deputy attorney general who named a special prosecutor to find the leaker whod blown the cover of the CIAs Valerie Plame.

Comey, who was appointed FBI Director by Obama in 2013, was sacked by Trump in May 2017 amid a probe into the NY billionaire's ties to Russian Federation. More than that, news of the pardon came unexpectedly and quickly late Thursday.

Trump said he pardoned Libby, whom he doesn't know, because "he has been treated unfairly"-a claim Plame shredded as completely false". "Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life". Then-President George Bush commuted Libby's 30-month sentence, sparing him prison time, but didn't pardon him.

A decade after Libby's conviction, a key witness recanted her testimony, explaining that the prosecutor withheld relevant information during interviews which would have changed what she said. Moreover, Libby has never apologized for his acts and continues to proclaim his innocence, not the usual conduct of someone who receives a presidential pardon.

Spotify And Hulu Launch Bundled Streaming Package
By way of comparison, a basic Netflix monthly subscription is $7.99 and an Apple Music monthly subscription is $9.99. It's also unclear whether this will affect the amount of users able to create accounts on a single Hulu account.

"I chose to go back and correct the record in my own book, which I did, and when Scooter Libby was given his law license back a year and a half ago, the judge specifically cited my testimony, the recantation of my testimony, as one of the factors in his decision".

It's unclear whether Trump is sending a message or not to individuals involved in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

At the same time, Wheeler writes, "This won't be one (Manafort) or two (Cohen) people Trump has to pardon".

"Mr. Libby's case has always been a cause for conservatives who maintained that he was a victim of a special prosecutor run amok, an argument that may have resonated with the president". House of Representatives Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement, "This pardon sends a troubling signal to the president's allies that obstructing justice will be rewarded". "Libby's problem was with the Justice Department". Asked if a pardon was about Comey, Conway said no. Last year, he pardoned Joe Arpaio, a former Arizona sheriff who campaigned for Trump, less than a month after he was convicted of criminal contempt in a case involving racial profiling.

In the case of Mr. Libby, our view is that President Trump did the right thing. But critics noted the timing, coming as Trump fumes over Robert Mueller's probe, which he has dubbed a "witch hunt".
