Cohen facilitated $1.6 million payment on behalf of GOP fundraiser

President Donald Trump's longtime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, facilitated a payment plan totaling $1.6 million a year ago to a former Playboy model who says she became pregnant by Elliott Broidy, a leading GOP fundraiser, a source tells CNN.

"I acknowledge I had a consensual relationship with a Playboy Playmate", Broidy said in a statement to The Journal.

Michael Cohen, whose home and office were raided this week by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents searching in part for information about payoffs to women alleging sexual encounters with Trump, handled the matter on behalf of Broidy.

Cohen handled the settlement to the woman for Elliot Broidy, a venture-capitalist who serves as a deputy finance chairman for the RNC, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Cohen and Broidy worked together at the RNC, after both being appointed in April 2017 by Trump. The contract stated that the woman declined to give proof she was pregnant, a source told the Journal.

The Journal said that the payment was negotiated late past year and that the first installment was due on December 1.

The contract reads that whether or not she is "indeed pregnant as she alleges" she has all her legal rights to seek "the paternity of the alleged child", and any support, financial help, or otherwise.

Cohen and Davidson did not respond to requests for comment.

Trump Ponders Re-Entering Trans Pacific Partnership Trade Agreement
Even as officials in other countries expressed skepticism Friday, they said they would like to hear what Washington has to offer. Mr Trump's Democratic rival in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton, also came out against the agreement during the campaign.

The deal bears remarkable similarities to an agreement reached between Donald Trump and porn star Stormy Daniels that was signed by Cohen and Daniels, but not Trump.

Cohen referred to Broidy as David Dennison and the playmate as Peggy Peterson-the same pseudonyms that were used in the Clifford agreement. Daniels at the time of the payment was being represented by Keith Davidson, the same attorney who represented the woman in the Broidy negotiations, according to the Journal.

Broidy has been a prominent supporter of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, and contributed to the then-candidate's fundraising efforts as vice chairman of the Trump Victory Fund, which combined state and national Republican committees. "Although I had not previously hired Mr. Cohen, I retained Mr. Cohen after he informed me about his prior relationship with Mr. Davidson".

"It is unfortunate that this personal matter between two consenting adults is the subject of national discussion just because of Michael Cohen's involvement", Broidy said.

Sources familiar with the situation said RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel had accepted Broidy's resignation from the finance committee. The unidentified woman claimed Broidy got her pregnant. Last month, Broidy co-hosted a fundraiser for Trump's re-election campaign in Los Angeles.

Both agreements had side letters identifying the parties by their real names, according to the report. "She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", Brody wrote.

McDougal has since claimed in a lawsuit that Davidson was working with Cohen to keep her quiet.
