In Peru for summit, Pence offers support for Syrian strike

Pence's to-do list included smoothing over differences with Mexico, America's southern neighbor, amid unease over Trump's decision to send troops to the border and harsh rhetoric on immigration.

Trump often improvises his remarks and is known for bold declarations in person and on his Twitter account.

Pence, who was also scheduled to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, struck a notably confident tone, saying USA officials "think we're close" and were "encouraged at the progress of our negotiations".

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh issued a statement Saturday saying "escalating violence through further military action is not the way to bring peace and stability to Syria and the surrounding region", and calling for more funds to investigate atrocities in Syria.

Shortly before Trump's address to the nation Friday night, Pence was whisked away from the summit in his motorcade so he could return to his hotel to inform congressional leaders of the pending missile strikes.

But Fury was soon stripped of the IBF belt, and relinquished the WBA and WBO versions amid mental health issues. Tyson Fury will make his long-awaited comeback on June 9 against an unnamed opponent at the Manchester Arena .

He warned that if it could not be overhauled to better protect US interests, Washington would pull out of the pact. Maduro has been barred from the summit over his plans to hold a presidential election that the opposition is boycotting and that many foreign governments consider a sham.

The president believed Lerner, a longtime Republican strategist, was a card-carrying member of the "Never Trump" movement because he helped the conservative Club for Growth create ads as part of a multi-million dollar offensive against Trump during the GOP primaries.

Pence left Peru on Saturday evening and arrived home in Washington early Sunday.
