Russian Federation to deliver S-300 air defence systems to Syria for free

A Russian army commander has also said that Moscow would consider supplying S-300 missile systems to Syria following US -led strikes.

"What decisions will be taken by the leadership of Russian Federation together with the representatives of Syria have yet to be determined; there is no secret here", Lavrov said. The American military airstrikes were in response to a suspected chemical gas attack on the district of Douma.

Moscow had "refused" to supply the surface-to-air missile system to Syria a few years ago after "taking into account the pressing request of some of our Western partners".

"We know what Russian President Vladimir Putin said".

Earlier in the day, Kommersant newspaper reported that Russian Federation may supply its S-300 long range surface-to-air missile systems to Syria on a free-of-charge basis, within the framework of military assistance to the Arab country.

The sources closed to the military leadership reported that the issue of the handover of the missile systems to the Syrian army is nearly decided.

New Nokia smartphones finally launch in South Africa
The two smartphones were unveiled globally in March and in India early this month , with the release date scheduled for April 30. ICICI credit and debit card customers buying either of the phones can avail a 10% cash back for a limited period.

The supplies will be conducted within the framework of rendering military and tech assistance to Damascus which the sources said "has no money" to pay for the deliveries.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has lashed out at the missile strikes carried out by the US, France and the United Kingdom on Syria, saying that they were aimed at hindering the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) investigation into the alleged use of poisonous substances in Douma, Eastern Ghouta.

"If Israel decides to carry out rocket strikes on the deployment locations of the S-300, the consequences will be catastrophic for all sides", Russian defense officials told the paper.

The advanced S-300 would be a major upgrade to the Syrian air defenses and would pose a threat to Israeli jets on missions as the long-range missile defense system can track objects such as aircraft and ballistic missiles over a range of 300 kilometers.

Lavrov was also quoted as saying that, prior to the US strikes on Syrian targets, Russian Federation had told USA officials which areas of Syria represented "red lines" for Moscow, and the US military action did not cross those lines. With two missiles per target each launcher vehicle can engage up to six targets at once. The Russian air defense units did not take part in the interception as no missile entered their areas of responsibility.
