Major dust storm kills 77 in India

The dust storm was followed by heavy rainfall which led to flooding, killing dozens.

18 people were killed in Khairabad, 9 in Fatehabad, 4 in Bah, 2 each in Etmadpur and Kirwali area in Agra as winds at the speed of 132 km/hour, with a massive thunder and hailstorm, lashed the entire region.

'We can confirm at least 46 deaths, 41 injuries from around 40 of the state's 75 districts, ' T.P. Gupta of the Uttar Pradesh relief commissioner's office told AFP.

Bharatpur suffered the maximum damage in Rajasthan in terms of loss to life as 12 people were killed in the district.

Gera said contigency funds have been released to the respective district administration. One death each reported in Bareilly, Pilibhit, Chitrakoot, Rae Bareli, Unnao, Mathura, Amroha, Kannauj, Banda, Kanpur, Sitapur, Sambhal and Mirzapur. The injured are being treated at government hospitals.

A total of 160 cattle died in different districts.
