On Thursday senior lawyer and former law minister Ram Jethmalani made a "mention" before Chief Justice Dipak Misra for listing a petition filed by him in his personal capacity questioning the decision of the governor to invite Mr Yeddyurappa to form the government.

In a setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Supreme Court has advanced the floor test in the Karnataka assembly to 4 pm on May 19 - slashing the 15-day window given by governor Vajjubhai Vala to BJP chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to prove his majority.

Amid a power struggle in Karnataka, some of the newly-elected JD (S) and Congress MLAs from the state arrived in the city today and are expected to be lodged in five-star hotels or resorts here, party sources said. Governor Vajubhai Vala administered the oath to Yeddyurappa on Thursday even as none of the council of ministers were sworn in. The list included the names and signatures of 104 BJP candidates, 78 from the Indian National Congress and 38 from the Janata Dal (Secular) party, along with two Independent candidates. BJP President Amit Shah said that the people have rejected the negative politics of the Congress.

"In fact, in a House where BJP does not enjoy a majority, as it stands today, it will need cross-voting or MLAs abstaining from voting to win the Speaker's election".

Karnataka Assembly Elections Results were declared on May 15, but the drama and suspense is still not settling up. Indian television channels reported that Congress was planning to approach the Supreme Court late in the night to challenge the governor's decision.

He also pointed out in court that BJP was claiming it had the majority without revealing names or numbers, whereas the Congress and JD (S) had presented a letter to the Governor with the MLAs' details.
