Top 5 Details from the Harvey Weinstein Criminal Complaint

Amanda Palmer, the Lexington native and indie rock superstar, had harsh words for Harvey Weinstein Friday as the disgraced film mogul was booked and arraigned in New York City on sexual assault charges. Argento and McGowan accused Harvey Weinstein of rape previous year and have been at the forefront of the crusade for justice against him. He denies having non-consensual sex and has reportedly been in treatment for sex addiction. Argento posted two messages to her social media pages: "What took you so long, Harvey? and "Harvey Weinstein isn't smiling now", both accompanied by screenshots of Weinstein heading into the courtroom".

The former film mogul's attorney, Ben Brafman, takes questions after Harvey Weinstein was released on bail. Bail was set at $1 million cash with a $10 million bond alternative.

He stared grimly as he appeared in a Manhattan court where he agreed to post US$1 million cash bail, wear an electronic monitor and not travel beyond NY and CT.

Dulany, who has alleged a 1996 encounter with Weinstein in which he picked her up at her apartment before a dinner and stripped naked, before she managed to kick him out, said the day had meaning not only to those who have publicly accused Weinstein, but to other victims who haven't felt able to come forward.

Actress Rose McGowan, among the first to accuse Weinstein of sexual assault, said seeing images of him in handcuffs was surreal.

"I haven't come out of the shock of it yet", she said. When asked if she could say something to Weinstein at that moment, McGowan simply said, "We got you".

Entertainment industry heavyweights have distanced themselves from Weinstein since the accusations became public. "Bad behavior is not on trial in this case - it is only if you intentionally committed a criminal act, and Mr. Weinstein vigorously denies that".

In 2017, Weinstein was expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Miramax, the company he founded with his brother, Bob, helped reinvent independent film, with hits like "Pulp Fiction" and "Shakespeare in Love". Over the years, journalists and investigators, chasing leads from a whisper network of women and a handful of complainants, tried to expose the accusations and hold him accountable, but came up empty. Both happened in NY.

As we reported, Weinstein will turn himself in today on state sexual assault charges.

Revelations in The New York Times and The New Yorker in the fall spurred official inquiries in New York, Los Angeles and London.

In the Strauss-Kahn case, Brafman said at the time he planned to argue that the woman must be lying because she was much larger than the accused. The district attorney said his decision was based on the merits of the case.

The New York charges are the first against Weinstein, even though several other cities opened up investigations into the producer in the wake of the reporting on the allegations.

The New York charges mark the second high-profile prosecution of a once-powerful show business personality in the #MeToo era.

"People are so sad, and they are so sick of it", McGowan said of the many other powerful men who have faced sexual misconduct allegations since Weinstein's downfall.

Cosby's conviction followed a mistrial past year on the same charges.

"If I'm allowed to, I will attend", McGowan told the AP.

According to The New York Times, Weinstein has until Wednesday "to decide whether he plans to testify in front of the grand jury".
