Diane Van Atter said her 2-year-old golden retriever, Ellie, went into labor unexpectedly as they were waiting to board a flight home to Philadelphia.

Due to the unexpected birth, the woman and her daughter missed their flight.

Emily Nipps, A spokeswoman for the airport, said: "I've never seen anything like this in an airport, or otherwise".

Tampa Fire Rescue paramedics and a nurse assisted with the delivery.

Van Atter said Rigby was still training as a service dog to help her with mobility and pain issues.

Van Atter's stepmother, Karen James, of Bradenton, was also set to fly to Philadelphia.
