"I call on all sides to stabilize the situation and not give into escalation which will lead to one thing: conflict", Macron said, adding that the Iranian statements added to tensions, but were not in violation of the nuclear deal.

On Tuesday, Iranian diplomat Ali Akbar Salehi reiterated that Iran "will remain within the framework of the 2015 nuclear agreement", as the country prepares to inform the United Nations' nuclear agency that is beginning to increase capacity to produce uranium.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for Iran's nuclear agency, was quoted by state TV on Tuesday as saying a letter was submitted to the International Atomic Energy Agency detailing the move.

According to Israeli Radio, Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz warned Tehran that if it did not bow to US demands regarding its nuclear-energy program, a coalition - including Israel and western and Arab countries - could be drawn up to confront it.

The three European powers are scrambling to save the deal - under which Iran curbed its nuclear program in return for a lifting of worldwide sanctions - as they regard it as the best chance to stop Tehran developing an atomic bomb.

"Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's declaration is a sign of hysteria and mass panic in the Iranian leadership", Lieberman said.

According to Reuters, asking the EIB to invest in Iran had "symbolic value as European Union officials see it as one of the easiest to deliver on in response to Iran's demands that it show proof of its commitment to the nuclear deal". Iran has repeatedly denied seeking a nuclear weapon from enrichment.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Sunday the US decision to withdraw from the agreement was illegal and he urged the other signatories not to follow suit.

The other signatories to the accord - Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany - said they remain committed to the deal.

The 2015 deal limited Iran to enriching uranium only to 3.67%, far below the roughly 90% threshold of weapons-grade material.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kicked off a three-day trip on Monday to persuade the leaders of Germany, France and the United Kingdom to abandon the Iran nuclear deal, meeting Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin to discuss the threat he says Tehran poses to his country and the wider Middle East.

On Sunday, Khamenei repeated the long-standing view from Iran that Israel is "a malignant cancerous tumour in the west Asian region that has to be removed and eradicated".

Iran, which won sanctions relief in exchange for limiting its nuclear program, has said repeatedly its nuclear activity was exclusively peaceful in nature.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif began a diplomatic tour last month in an effort to persuade the deal's other signatories to keep to it.

'It's important to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.

The US has warned European companies to stop doing business in Iran or face the threat of breaching new and tougher sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
