Trump and Kim lookalikes hold ´summit´ in Singapore

"I think President Trump signed onto this thinking that he was going to ride in on a white horse to Singapore, accept a bunch of nuclear warheads, and problem solved", Kristof says.

The self-proclaimed master dealmaker is facing doubts from multiple corners as he prepares to negotiate with Kim Jong Un.

"My suspicion remains that he is going to try to get as much sanctions relief as possible without having to give up his weapons", said Sen.

"Within the first minute I'll know", he said.

The standard thinking goes that he needs quick help to stabilize and then rebuild an economy that has suffered amid a decades-long pursuit of nuclear bombs, and that the North Koreans see a unique chance to win concessions, legitimacy and protection from a meeting with a highly unconventional USA president who's willing to consider options past American leaders would not.

"I think within the first minute, I'll know", Trump said, further explaining that it would be "just, my touch, my feel - That's what I do".

"You know the way they say you know if you like somebody in the first five seconds?" he added. "They are really working very well with us", Trump told reporters at a press conference in Quebec, adding that he was looking forward for the meeting.

Trump expressed hope that the summit would be good for world peace but also for the dictatorship.

In his press conference Saturday, Trump compared what he described as a lack of action on the part of past US leaders on North Korea with the "bad" trade deals they made with key allies, including Canada and France.

The 2015 deal limited Iran to enriching uranium only to 3.67%, far below the roughly 90% threshold of weapons-grade material. The other signatories to the accord - Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany - said they remain committed to the deal.

Since becoming the North's leader in 2011, Kim has only taken one known overseas trip by air - to Dalian in China in early May - flying in his personal Ilyushin-62M jet and accompanied by a cargo plane. "People don't know much about him".

"Even if they cheat on handing over nuclear weapons, possibly cheat on freezing uranium production, there can be a certain amount of cheating and we can still be better off", Kristof says.

When he previously appeared at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea with the same Donald Trump lookalike, he was escorted out by security after waving and dancing in front of North Korea´s cheerleaders.

North Korea's secrecy would make it hard to end its nuclear program quickly, said Robert Einhorn, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. And we appreciate everything that's going on.

It will be the first summit of its kind between a leader of North Korea and a sitting USA president.

President Trump "is willing to do something big, something bold".

Trump and Kim can also silence skeptics in Washington, Seoul and Tokyo, Yun wrote, by producing "a clear timeline for the ultimate goal: the disablement and dismantlement of all North Korean nuclear and ICBM facilities, material and devices". "It really amazed me and I thought we can learn a lot".

After a flurry of contacts between the two Koreas, South Korean officials suggested to Trump in March that Kim would be willing to meet face-to-face.
