Barcelona offer two players plus significant fee for Paul Pogba

Manchester United have rejected an unexpected offer from Barcelona for midfielder Paul Pogba.

Among the Premier League clubs that voted against the early closure of the summer transfer window in England were Manchester United.

Pogba did not want to continue partnering Nemanja Matic at the base of a two-man midfield, and instead pushed for United to switch to a 4-3-3 - giving him his preferred position on the left of a midfield three.

It is claimed that if Manchester United can find a replacement quickly, they will agree to sell Pogba.

Pogba endured a turbulent time at Old Trafford last season.

United said last night that Pogba was not for sale amid claims that Barcelona and Juventus want to sign the World Cup victor before the European transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

"By building the team around him, Jose would be challenging Pogba to prove he is an elite player by delivering captain's performances every week".

"I don't think it's about us getting the best out of him", Mourinho told ESPN FC.

It has been claimed that Pogba's agent Mino Raiola has already agreed the outline of personal terms on a contract with Barcelona and a €110m deal could be done.

"I think the World Cup is the ideal habitat for a player like him to give the best. Why?" According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, French midfielder Paul Pogba's agent has met up with Barcelona chiefs and negotiated on a deal to lure the United star to Camp Nou.

Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, is now in England to guide the 25-year-old out of Old Trafford, and negotiations are expected to be fully completed before the window closes next Thursday, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Jose Mourinho tells ESPN FC that the World Cup was the flawless habitat for Paul Pogba as he could 'only think about football'.
