The Carr Fire spawned a "fire whirl" of flames and winds in excess of 143 miles per hour (230 kph) on July 26 that had the strength of a severe tornado and uprooted trees and toppled power lines, according to a tweet by the National Weather Service.

Dykema said the whirl uprooted trees and tore roofs from home.

An air tanker was deployed in Mendocino County, California, on August 2 to help contain wildfires that have burned over 150,000 acres of land and vegetation.

That fire continues to burn about 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of the OR border as firefighters there and throughout Northern California brace for worsening conditions this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning in parts of California for conditions that are conducive to the growth of wildfires including strong winds, low humidity and very high temperatures.

The Mendocino Complex Fire continues to threaten homes, and force evacuations. Officials say firefighters hope to have them both contained in a 1.5 weeks.

"The Mendocino Complex Fire has charred more than 102,790 hectares, making it the fifth largest blaze in California's history", AccuWeather said on its website.
