China, US To Hold Lower-Level Trade Talks In Late August

The ministry reiterated in the statement that China is against unilateralism and trade protectionism, and won't accept any unilateral trade restrictions.

A Chinese delegation will travel to the United States later this month to resume negotiations as a trade war intensifies between the world's two biggest economies.

Vice Commerce Minister Wang Shouwen, the deputy representative on worldwide trade negotiations, will meet with a senior U.S. treasury official, David Malpass, at the invitation of the United States, the ministry said in a statement.

News of the upcoming talks helped Chinese stocks stem losses.

Chinese Vice Premier Liu He held talks with US Commerce Minister Wilbur Ross in Beijing in June.

‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin gravely ill, ‘in hospice care’
Branded the Queen of Soul for her ground-breaking voice, the iconic singer has battled a string of health problems in later years. That is, I think, what we should say about Aretha today . "I can't think of a more American singer than Aretha Franklin ".

While the engagement was seen by analysts and business officials as positive, they cautioned that the talks were unlikely to lead to a breakthrough given they are among lower level officials and led on the U.S. side by the Treasury Department, not the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).

"There may be some manipulation but mostly I think investors are moving out of China because they don't like the economy, and they are coming to the United States of America because they like our economy".

It's unclear whether the trade talks will take place before or after August 23rd, . which is when Washington is due to activate additional tariffs on 16-billion dollars of Chinese goods, .an action Beijing has vowed to respond in kind to immediately. He continued, "Right now, their economy looks awful". The U.S. has imposed tariffs on tens of millions in Chinese imports with President Trump's warning of tariffs on hundreds of millions more in Chinese imports to the United States.

The announcement by the Chinese commerce ministry of the planned meeting in late August comes after a lull in talks between the two sides. Wang is also the deputy China global trade representative.

Mr Trump said in a tweet in April: "Russia and China are playing the Currency Devaluation game as the U.S. keeps raising interest rates".
