Trump to Bloomberg: Sessions' job is safe until at least November elections

President Donald Trump would not say whether embattled Attorney General Jeff Sessions - who he has repeatedly criticized throughout his tenure - would be safe in his job after the November election, according to a report.

Thursday he told the outlet, "I do question what Jeff is doing".

As for Mueller - whose investigation Trump called "illegal" in the Bloomberg interview - 63 percent of respondents support his investigation while 29 percent oppose. "He won't. He might get fired, but I don't think he'll quit".

We're not convinced. Given Trump's belief that Mueller's investigation is a "witch hunt", why should we expect him to choose a new attorney general (or acting attorney general) who would respect that investigation, or resist entreaties by the president to investigate alleged crimes by his political opponents? "I wanted to stay out, but at some point if it doesn't straighten out properly ..."

Trump has repeatedly lashed out at Sessions on social media over the attorney general's decision past year to recuse himself from the FBI's Russian Federation investigation.

An unknown number of people have been transported to a local hospital for treatment following the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board said it was sending a team to investigate.

"I view it differently", Bloomberg quoted Trump as saying. Bloomberg said Trump declined to comment when asked if he would keep Sessions past then.

"[He] never took control of the Justice Department and it's a sort of an incredible thing", Trump continued.

Two White House aides said "Trump's latest push against Sessions was fueled by last week's conviction of Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen and former campaign manager Paul Manafort", AL.com reported.

"Our Justice Department and our Federal Bureau of Investigation - at the top of each, because inside they have incredible people - but our Justice Department and our Federal Bureau of Investigation have to start doing their job and doing it right and doing it now", Trump said. He charged that Mueller's probe was "highly conflicted" and that "real corruption goes untouched". But on Thursday, the president said that Sessions is safe - at least until the election.
