Actor Burt Reynolds dies at 82

And he had a hit TV show in the 1990s with "Evening Shade".

"I just kept working", Reynolds recounted to ET in 2015 about struggling with addiction and battling rumors that he was dying of AIDS due to his extreme weight loss. He was playing a lot of rather serious characters around this time and his Tonight Show appearances showed how charming he could be, as well. "By the time I finally woke up and tried to get it right, nobody would give me a chance".

In his later life, Reynolds was as famous for his private life as for his film and television work; his relationship with Sally Field and his marriage to Loni Anderson were both subject to heavy scrutiny from tabloid magazines around the world.

Reynolds is survived by his son, Quinton Anderson Reynolds.

Reynolds was born in Lansing, Michigan, on February 11, 1936. His family settled in Riviera Beach, Florida, after his father, who served in the Army, returned from Europe in 1946.

Reynolds died at the Jupiter Medical Center in Florida, his manager told The Hollywood Reporter. He had a promising future with the program, but he suffered a knee injury in the Seminoles' first game of his sophomore season, then later that year suffered another knee injury and lost his spleen as a result of a auto accident.

Manchester United legend Neville labels Chelsea 'a club of madness.'
Manchester United are now 13th place in the early-season standings after suffering back-to-back defeats, following up their 3-2 setback at Brighton with a 3-0 loss at home to Tottenham on Monday night.

When injuries derailed his promising athletic career, Reynolds turned to acting. Other actors such as Marlon Brando had turned the role down, but Reynolds took his part in the John Boorman-directed feature and it worked out quite well.

"Reynolds" biggest early success on the silver screen was in 1972's Deliverance, in which he played one of four male friends whose backwoods canoeing trip goes seriously awry. He might not have been in Star Wars in 1977, but he was in Smokey and the Bandit.

"I had a tremendous freshman year, then I had gotten hurt at the beginning of my sophomore year and had my knee operated on", Reynolds says in the interview.

As recently as July the actor was hoping to reconnect with Field with whom he was estranged. Another petrolheaded hit came later with 1981 Hal Needham comedy The Cannonball Run, about a cross country vehicle race. Boogie Nights is one of my fav films. Modern audiences may best remember him, however, for his Oscar-nominated role in the 1997 film "Boogie Nights".

Stars have taken to social media to pay tribute to Reynolds.
