Alex Jones Permanently Suspended From Twitter

Twitter said on Thursday it had "permanently suspended" conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his website, Infowars, for sharing a series of tweets and videos, including verbal attacks on a reporter that Jones live-streamed outside of a congressional hearing the day before. CNN even provided Dorsey with a list of seven tweets that violated the site's terms of use, and yet only now is Jones finally banned, after there could be no way for Twitter to talk its way around letting him remain on the platform.

Last month, Twitter gave Jones a small punishment for his inflammatory behavior on the platform-a one-week suspension that prevented Jones from tweeting or retweeting from his personal account.

Jones, who is the controversial InfoWars founder, repeatedly interrupted Rubio while he was attempting to answer questions from reporters during a recess in the Senate Intelligence Committee's hearing on foreign use of social media to influence USA politics.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, a Twitter spokesperson attributed the ban on to a heated confrontation with CNN reporter Oliver Darcy, which was broadcast on Periscope.

Jones repeatedly interrupted Rubio as the senator answered questions from reporters.

Jones had traveled to Washington, DC on Wednesday to attend congressional hearings in which Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg were scheduled to testify about fake accounts and perceived bias on their platforms.

Jones is now being sued in Texas by two Sandy Hook parents, seeking at least $1 million (£0.77 million), claiming that they have been the subject of harassment driven by his programs.

Duncan Hunter of California was indicted and accused of fraud and stealing campaign funds for personal use, and Rep. Trump pointed to the popularity of the two men who faced an easy re-election before being indicted.

Jones then asked Rubio if he planned on having him arrested if he dared to touch him again.

At one point, he said Darcy was "smiling like a possum that crawled out of the rear end of a dead cow".

Twitter initially took a more tepid stance on taking action against Jones. Of course, this also comes after Jones crashed Dorsey's visit to Congress, accusing him and other tech leaders of being biased against conservatives.

Jones' bread and butter is shouting over-the-top grievances and conspiracy theories in videos that he shares on social media, radio and his own websites.

Among other claims, Alex Jones (file photo) has called the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting a hoax.

Jones has also claimed that the September 11, 2001 attacks on NY and Washington were staged by the United States government. But until now it had resisted muzzling Jones further.

While running for president in 2015, Donald Trump told Jones his reputation was 'amazing'.
