Schauffele beats Finau in Shanghai play-off

Of Samoan and Tongan descent, Finau is the first player of that ancestry on the PGA Tour and the first Polynesian to play in the Ryder Cup, where he provided a rare bright spot as a U.S. captain's pick in last month's crushing loss to Europe.

Schauffele began the final round at Sheshan International three shots off the lead, but carded the lowest round of the day with a four-under-par 68 to finish alongside Finau on 14 under par.

Finau was at 13-under 203 and led by three over Justin Rose, Masters champion Patrick Reed and Xander Schauffele.

Finau got back in front with a birdie as Schauffele bogeyed 15th and the two ran neck-and-neck as Rose faltered over the final few holes to drop out of contention.

Finau shot 71 on Sunday, his worst round of the tournament, although he also birdied the final hole to reach the playoff.

"I have events I've got to defend, two left in Turkey and Indonesia", he said.

However, Rose then finished double-bogey, bogey and Finau took full advantage by following a birdie at 16 with further gains on 17 and 18.

"The issue's obviously with Jordan not wanting to play with me", he told the New York Times after the usa were thrashed by Europe in Paris.

Sharma, who was 80-80 for the first two days, opened superbly from the 10th with three birdies in first five holes, but then had a start-stop-start kind of a round. "I was in a world of my own out there".

That meant Brooks Koepka, who closed with a 69 and tied for 16th, stayed at No. 1 in the world for at least another week. "I know he's going to win a lot soon, obviously, because he's playing so well". The U.S.is trying to become the first country to have four players win all four World Golf Championships in one year after Phil Mickelson won the Mexico Championship, Bubba Watson won the Match Play and Justin Thomas won the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone.

TAOYUAN, Taiwan (AP) - Hsu Wei-Ling rode the support of her home crowd to shoot a 5-under 67 and take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the LPGA Taiwan Championship. He shared second at the Open Championship in July and claimed top-10 finishes at the final two play-off events in the United States before helping Europe regain the Ryder Cup in France.
