Kyrie Goes for 43 As Celtics Top Raptors In Overtim

The Celtics are 4-1 at home, while the Raptors come in 5-1 on the road as they begin a four-game road trip.

Donovan Mitchell was much more efficient leading Utah in scoring this time.

Kyrie Irving, though, had other ideas. Irving scored 43 points and 11 assists and just dominated Toronto.

"I think a year ago, the young guys that are in the locker room now, some of the guys that are playing, they were a little bit younger", said Irving after he scored 20 points in the loss to Utah. Overall Boston shot 38.5 percent, not that far behind Utah's 45 percent...until you take into account that the Jazz took far fewer shots, and were thus picking their spots in a way the Celtics weren't.

While no one is panicking, there is a clear and undeniable heightened level of concern within the locker room. So you've just got to be on your P's and Q's for the unknown, and that's the competition.

The Celtics (8-6) has been a bit of a disappointment this season, with the Celtics re-learning how to play with Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward. Of all those things, nothing stood out more than their struggles at the free throw line.

Here are three takeaways from the Celtics disappointing loss. Once he and his teammates began attacking the rim, things finally began to open up for Boston offensively.

The first 15 games of the 2018 season, though not exactly an unmitigated disaster, haven't exactly gone the way the Boston Celtics would have drawn them up. "Kyrie's ability to get in there is so unique. Tonight, we just weren't".

- The Garden has been a safe place for the Celtics this season, as they are 5-1 at home so far this campaign and have won four straight in Boston. Despite the offensive talent in their roster, the Celtics are just ranked 20th in the league in points per game (106.7). Smart's co-partner for Boston's "Bench With Attitude", Marcus Morris, agreed with what the former Oklahoma State guard had to say.

Jayson Tatum, one of the Celtics' young stars, finished the game with 10 points. "I had to do my part". "Let alone, getting down 20 early and putting more pressure on ourselves and more stress on ourselves to come back". The depth of Brad Stevens' team along with its chemistry are its two strongest points.

For someone still clearly working his way back into form, all of it was important. He went on to sign a three-year, $100 million deal and is now a focal point of the new-look Raptors, a group which also features Kawhi Leonard.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy: 'Negativity is an unfortunate part of this business'
When Rodgers missed an easy third-down throw on the ensuing possession, McCarthy opted to punt on fourth-and-2 with 4:20 to go. Rodgers and Wilson are being helped this year by improved run games that are among the best in the league.

"We needed energy, " said Stevens.

"I'm happy he left me in", Hayward said.

Andrew Wiggins led six Minnesota players in double figures with 23 points in a romp past visiting Portland. I thought when he was matched up with [Jabari] Parker [Wednesday] he was very good.

With all that being said, Toronto still had its chances.

Holiday overcame a shaky, turnover-plagued start to finish with 24 points and 10 assists.

Though, he would have nothing but praise for the Raptors afterwards. Danny Green was hit with a pair of questionable calls in a 35-second span to foul out with 3:43 to go in regulation, and his absence was a clear issue for the Raptors afterward. Kyle Lowry tweaked his right leg/ankle late in the third quarter but finished with eight points, eight assists and seven rebounds, while Danny Green was a ideal 7-for-7 from the field for 17 points.

Toronto could easily be 14-2 and coming off a pair of close, emotional victories.

The Jazz improved to 8-8 with the victory and snapped a two-game losing streak.

"This game isn't a given", added Mitchell. "The losses, what is it, Game 16?" "I mean, we just don't have that mindset yet that we need".

As always for the Jazz, it starts with the defensive end of the floor, and Mitchell has shown an ability to apply himself there too.
